The next scene opens with a Discovery Channel moment, which impels me to…
It is EXACTLY how I envisioned it. We see an eagle or a falcon soaring through the sky, high above the island, strong, graceful, the wind rushing through its wings. Continue reading »

Carpet can show dirt and the wear and tear of high traffic more easily than most other types of flooring, so it is vital to maintain a regular cleaning schedule for your carpeted areas. Lees in Greensboro, N.C., a manufacturer of carpeting and a division of Burlington Industries, has the following recommendations for care of its carpeting:
Daily.
* Provide walk-off/wipe-off areas at all building entrances.
* Vacuum daily in high-traffic areas with a dual-motor upright vacuum that has a beater bar or double row of brushes with high suction. Make sure the high/low setting is appropriate for your floor. Vacuum with slow, deliberate strokes, and make a minimum of four passes across each area to effectively remove all dirt. Continue reading »

Oprah Winfrey rules newsstands right now, gracing the covers of both Time and Vogue in honor of her double role as star and producer of “Beloved.” (She’s also included among Fortune’s “50 Most Powerful Women in American Business” — at No. 2 — and with the movie opening October 16 and generating Oscar buzz, she’ll no doubt dominate other magazines in weeks to come.) So, what does the early coverage reveal — besides two very different faces of an icon? Continue reading »

- You can practice it almost anywhere, at almost anytime, and the equipment needed is — nothing. Just your body.
- Tai Chi is relatively inexpensive. For example, each six week course at the Tai Chi school I attend costs between $85 and $100. Half-day work shops are generally $40-$60.

The fall 2001 issue of the Disney Magazine calls it “The Birthday Party of the Century,” and that seems appropriate, because it’s for the man who started it all. The Walt Disney World 100 Years of Magic Celebration starts on October 1st and for the next year the “World” will pay tribute to Walt Disney, creator of Mickey Mouse and so much more.

When it comes to personal computers and technology, it may seem like the overriding goal of most small-business operators is to save money. Many of us don’t have the lavish technology budgets enjoyed by large corporations. Each purchase of a new computer system can be an agonizing process, as we weigh the potential benefits of upgrading to a faster machine against the drain upon cash flow.

NCWO and other Women’s groups call for Constitutional Amendment to have only ONE Syariah Law for Muslim Families
The National Council of Women’s Organisations (NCWO) representing more than 100 affiliated organisations and several other women’s groups call on the Government to amend the Federal Constitution to establish federal jurisdiction over Islamic Family Law. The aim is to ensure that all Muslims are subjected to the same Islamic Law and same standards of justice wherever they may reside. The amendments that are called for have two objectives: · to grant the Federal Parliament the power to enact and amend Islamic Family Laws and regulations and · to ensure continuance of the administration and implementation of Islamic Family Law by the State Governments under the power of the Rulers.

The vaunted future of music is a favorite topic with critics. Here we raise the possibility that a turning point has been reached.
Music is many-splendored: it is a form of expression, a form of communication, and a form of entertainment. As a form of expression, music is about the self, the artist. As a form of communication, music transacts between artist and listener. As a form of entertainment, music is avowedly for the listener. The history of entertainment does not interest me; but the history of music as a history of expression and communication does. What happens when music is viewed from this perspective?
